EC1515B v3 manual: functions and settings

The previous article describes how you can assemble the EC1515B digital clock DIY kit with DS3102 IC. Unfortunately, there is usually no user manual included. The EC1515B v3 manual that can be found online does not excel in clarity. That is why in this article we will look at what functions the clock has and how you can set everything.

EC1515B v3 manual

The clock has two buttons on the back. The left is the MODE button and the right is the PLUS. Usually, you select the setting you want to change with MODE and change the value of that setting with PLUS.

The clock has 4 modes:

  • Time display (standard mode, from this you go to the other 3 modes).
  • Time settings (press MODE briefly).
  • Hourly signal and alarm settings (press MODE for 3 seconds).
  • Function settings (press MODE for longer than 3 seconds).

The different modes are discussed below in succession.

Time display (mode 1) – EC1515B v3 manual

The clock is in this mode by default. In this mode 3 different displays are possible:

  1. Successively: time, temperature, year, month and day, day of the week.
  2. Alternating time and temperature.
  3. Only time.

The desired display can be selected in step 6 of the Function settings, see below.

The PLUS button in this mode does the following:

  • PLUS: successively displays temperature, year, month and day, day of the week.
  • Hold MODE and then PLUS: switch between the 12 different LED effects or switch off the LEDs.

With the MODE button you can switch from the time display to the 3 other modes:

  • Press MODE briefly: switch to the “time settings” mode.
  • Press MODE for 3 seconds: Switch to “Hourly signal and alarm settings” mode.
  • Press MODE for 5 seconds: Switch to “Function settings” mode.

Time settings (mode 2)

Here you set the date and time. You enter this mode by briefly pressing MODE. If you wait longer than 3 seconds, the clock will jump back to the old time.

With MODE you choose the next setting, with PLUS you change the value of the setting. Press and hold PLUS to change faster. The settings are successively:

  • Year: the year flashes in the display
  • Month: the month next to the day flashes in the display
  • Day: the day next to the month flashes in the display
  • Hour: the hour flashes in the display

Here you set the other functions. You enter this mode by pressing MODE for 5 seconds. If you wait longer than 10 seconds during the setting, the clock will jump back to the time display.

With MODE you choose the next setting, with PLUS you change the value of the setting. Press and hold PLUS to change faster. The display shows the number of the relevant setting. The settings are successively:

  5. Time display 12/24 hours
  6. Time display Select the display type (0-2) for Time Display mode
  7. Switch LED effects

Dimming: if you choose OFF for setting 1, the LEDs will always burn at full intensity. If, on the other hand, you choose ON then the display will dim when it gets dark. You can then choose the threshold at setting number 2.

Temperature calibration: at setting number 4 you can compensate for the temperature deviation. If the display always shows the temperature 2 degrees too high, choose -2 with this setting.

Time display: with setting 6 you choose what the clock displays in standard mode:

  • Select 0 for the time only
  • Select 1 for time, temperature, year, month and day, day of the week
  • Select 2 for alternating time and temperature

Changing LED effects: with setting number 7 you choose whether the 12 LED effects should change automatically, with the corresponding interval.

  • Select 0 for no switching.
  • Select 1 to 60 for an interval in minutes.
  • Choose greater than 60 for an interval in hours: 62 = an interval of 2 hours.
