On this blog are some projects that have COVID-19 Corona as a subject. COVID-19, which stands for coronavirus disease 2019, is an infectious disease caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2 (formerly 2019-nCoV). It is probably a zoonosis. The disease was first identified in 2019 in Wuhan, the capital of China’s Hubei province, and has since spread globally, resulting in the ongoing 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic.

The virus is mainly spread during close contact and via respiratory droplets produced when people cough or sneeze. The disease emerged at the end of 2019 and is so prevalent that the corona pandemic officially started on March 11th, 2020.

Track the global spread of the virus on the world map of Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). Data for your own project can be found at https://coronavirus-disasterresponse.hub.arcgis.com/.

Stop the spread of the coronavirus

Go outside only when necessary. For example, for shopping, or for a breath of fresh air. Do not do that with more than 3 people. Work at home if possible. Keep 1.5 meters away from others (2 arm lengths). Also on the street, in the supermarket, and in the park. Wash your hands with soap and water several times a day.

Tips from the World Health Organization (WHO):

  • Wash your hands regularly.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Cough and sneeze into a tissue or your elbow.
  • Avoid groups and keep enough distance from others.
  • Stay home if you have a cold.
  • In case of fever, coughing, or shortness of breath, follow the advice of the government.
